The commissioning process

Re-cover

Having a chair re-covered, rather than fully re-upholstered, is a cost-effective and efficient way to refresh its appearance. Re-covering involves replacing only the outer fabric, preserving the chair’s existing structure and padding if they are still in good condition. It’s a great option for giving your furniture a new look or updating it to match your décor, while maintaining the original comfort and craftsmanship.

Re-use

Another option is to  reuse as many key elements of a chair’s original upholstery, as possible, such as the seat padding, or springs. By retaining these components, particularly if they are still in good shape, the process becomes more sustainable and cost-effective. Worn-out or damaged parts are replaced, while the core structure remains intact. This approach maintains the chair’s original comfort and craftsmanship, blending the old with the new for a revitalized, yet familiar, piece of furniture.

Re-build

Re-build

A full re-upholster may be the best option for a chair that has significant wear, damage, or outdated materials. This process involves completely rebuilding the chair, including replacing the padding, springs, and fabric, and sometimes reinforcing the frame. The benefit of a full re-upholster is that it restores the chair to like-new condition, enhancing comfort and extending its lifespan. It also gives you the chance to customize the chair with modern materials or fabrics, ensuring it fits your style and needs while preserving the original craftsmanship or sentimental value of the piece

Estimate

Re-build

Whether it's a recover, a reupholster, or something in between, the first stage is to put together an estimate of cost and time, based on photographs and measurements.

Consultation

The next step is a design consultation, where we can discuss in more detail the design and finished look as well as the upholstery process

Work begins

Once your piece of furniture has arrived at the workshop, work can begin. Photos will be taken every step of the way, to share with you on completion. I'm also happy to give regular updates on progress and will keep you informed of the expected completion date.
